PictureIt looks like next week is THE week for killing our two extra roosters. We had three but one has since died. I think the other chickens pecked him to death. So sad. We called them the Three Amigos. There were 5 roosters that came in with Lauren’s little bantams. Needless to say, we now have only 3. One is going to live with the only living bantam we have left and the other two are to become dinner. The fourth one died during a cold snap last month.

I’m really hoping that part of our movement away from the grocery store (as much as we can anyway), is to start processing our own chickens. We have two still here in the house who are almost ready to go outside (once they have their real feathers) to the little chicken shack where the bantam and rooster now reside.

I’m trying to figure out a way that we can raise 10-12 chickens and butcher every two weeks. I think that would be awesome. We would know where our chickens are coming from and how they are raised. In addition, we would be able to support ourselves.

Well, that’s the plan anyway. We’ll see what happens!
