So yesterday morning I made a huge batch of Honey Oatmeal Pancakes. By the time I get the last little pancakes off the pan, I realize we don’t have any syrup. Well … clever mom that I am, I researched and found a recipe for homemade syrup. I wasn’t sure if the kids would like it, but they did!!!! Surprise, surprise, surprise! They said it was just as good as the stuff we buy from the store. I can now scratch syrup off the grocery list!
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup water
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon maple flavoring (extract)
Combine sugar, water and salt in a saucepan. Heat to boiling stirring a few times. When it starts boiling, let it boil about 3 minutes without stirring it. Take it off the heat and add the vanilla and maple extract. Serve warm. Store in a container in the fridge and reheat before serving again.
